Ormonde Offshore Windfarm – 2010. Located 10km off Barrow in Furness in the Irish Sea, this wind farm consists of thirty 5MW turbines with an offshore electrical substation. Agrilek were contracted to Areva to carry out the construction and installation of the 132/33kV offshore substation,132kV and 33kV switchgear commissioning and terminations. Agrilek continue to be involved in this project with offshore mechanical and electrical maintenance work on behalf of Areva, REpower and Ormonde Energy Limited. Agrilek’s work scope includes offshore cable & connection work; HV Termination Inspection; VLF Testing and Mechanical Installation Offshore.
Walney 1 and Walney 2 Offshore Windfarms – 2011. Located 15km off the coast of Barrow in Furness, Walney 1 and Walney 2 windfarms will each consist of fifty one 3.6MW turbines. Agrilek is currently providing engineering maintenance service and support to Ballast Nedam, Geosea NV and Visser & Smit Marine Contracting.
Agrilek’s skilled workforce of Engineers and Tradesmen enables us to undertake a board range of complex and demanding projects. We hold quality assurance certification to BS EN ISO 9001:2008, hold the Lloyds accreditation to work on the public supply network and control and operate over 30 pre-qualified welding procedures as accredited by Lloyd’s.
We employ on a permanent basis the following: Senior Authorised Personnel, Commissioning Engineers, Appointed Lift Person, CSWIP Welding Inspector, NDT Operative (DPI/MPI/USI), Quality Assurance Engineer and a Health and Safety Officer, all trained to meet the full requirements of working offshore.
Within the business, we have over 40 years extensive experience and involvement in sub-sea engineering, including operating the first remote controlled submarines in the North Sea for Sub Sea Surveys and Vickers Oceanics.

Blyth Offshore Windfarm – 2000. Blyth Offshore Windfarm is located 1 km off the coast of the Port of Blyth. It was the UK's first offshore wind farm. Commissioned in December 2000 as a pilot project it consists of two Vestas 2 MW turbines. At the time of installation the turbines were the largest, most powerful offshore turbines erected in the world. Agrilek were called-in post commissioning to correct defective sub-sea cable installation and carryout cable fault location, joint and re-commission.
North Hoyle Offshore Windfarm – 2003. Located off the North Wales coast, North Hoyle was the UK’s first major offshore windfarm, consisting of thirty 2MW turbines. Agrilek were appointed electrical systems design and installation contractor for all on-shore connection work, substation build and associated services. Agrilek’s scope of works included specialised civil installation works, including directional drilling and beach head connection interfaces and the complex sub-sea to shore cable interface joints. Agrilek were commissioned to carry out VLF testing of both on-shore and off-shore cabling.
Barrow Offshore Windfarm – 2005. Barrow Offshore Windfarm is a joint venture between Centrica and Dong Energy, located 7km south west of the Cumbrian coast. This is a thirty 3MW turbine site and was the first 132/33kV offshore substation subcontracted to Areva. Agrilek were appointed by Vestas/Kellog Brown and Root joint venture to carry out cabling and connections work offshore. Agrilek also provided specialist access craft for offshore turbine and structure access.
Strangford Tidal Marine Current Turbines – 2005. Strangford Loch, Northern Ireland, is the home to the world’s first commercial tidal stream power station. Agrilek provided the detailed design and development of cable installation for Off-shore HV connections.
Beatrice Windfarm – 2006. The Beatrice Wind Farm Demonstrator Project saw two 5MW wind turbines installed adjacent to the Beatrice oil field, 25 km off the east coast of Scotland. The REpower 5M turbines were built specifically for offshore, deep water use for the first time. Agrilek were commissioned by REpower to carry out VLF testing & terminations.
Robin Rigg Offshore Windfarm – 2007. Located in the Solway Firth, Robin Rigg was the first commercial offshore windfarm in Scottish waters. Robin Rigg consists of sixty 3MW turbines with two offshore electrical substations. Agrilek were contracted to Areva to carry out the construction and site installation of 132/33kV offshore substation; terminating the 2 x 132 kV sub sea connectors to the offshore substations 132/33kvA 1 MVA transformers and GIS switchgear and the beach interface jointing chambers; terminating and testing all the 33kV infield sub sea cables between the sixty turbines and the substation WS vacuum circuit breaker.
